Library App

This guide is a brief tour of the main features of the West Sussex Libraries app, which is free and can be used on Apple and Android phones or tablets.

You can print or download this Library App Helpsheet [241 KB - not accessible].

To download the free app, go to your app store and search for:

Once you have downloaded the app, tap to open.

The first time you use the app you will need to sign in. Tap Sign in and enter your library card number (the long number on the card) and PIN. If you don’t know your PIN, you can ask a member of library staff (you will need to show ID), or you can reset your PIN via the library website.

Main features of the Library App

Scan ISBN Scan ISBN

Scan ISBN can be used in a bookshop or supermarket, simply tap this option then point your smart phone camera so that the red line is across the barcode of any book to discover if it’s available in West Sussex Libraries. If it is, then you can reserve it!

Search our catalogue Search our library catalogue

Tap Search our catalogue to check for items in stock. You can use keyword or title search.

The Any format option will appear at the bottom of the Search screen, allowing you to choose between standard or Large Print books, CD/DVD, audio books. There is also a regularly updating on-screen carousel of new book covers.

 

Nearest LibraryNearest Library. Find a library branch convenient for you.

Choose Nearest Library and, if you have GPS tracking enabled on your device you will see a list of the libraries nearest to where you are.

If you don’t have GPS enabled it will display all West Sussex libraries in alphabetical order.
The information for each library includes opening hours, phone numbers, email addresses and directions. You can use GPS to plot a route to the library. You can even check which buses run there! Click on Get Directions, then on the car icon and select Public Transport from the drop-down menu.

My Account My Account. Manage your loans, reservations and more.

Use My Account to renew your items on loan, check reservations and view any outstanding charges. You can also check the records of family members by choosing Linked Accounts.

On the Linked Accounts screen, tap +Add and enter the borrower number and PIN for the family member you wish to link. Repeat for each additional person.

eBooks and eMagazineseBooks and eMagazines. Download and read eBooks & listen to eAudiobooks.

Choose eBooks and eMagazines to browse our eLibrary, which also includes eAudiobooks and eComics. You will need to make sure that you have the relevant app downloaded. For instance, to browse eNewspapers you will need the Press Reader app.

eInformation eInformation

You can use this link to access many of our online resources. These include Britannica, Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Times Digital Archive and Who’s Who. Note that resources which can only be accessed in a West Sussex Library, such as Ancestry and Which? are not available here.

Socialise enables you to keep up with West Sussex Libraries on Facebook. You can use this link to sign up and follow us!

What’s On What's On. Never miss a local branch event.

Use this link to check on events in libraries, such as our regular Knit and Natter groups and Baby Rhyme Times, as well as occasional events such as author talks and more.

Last but not least, when you are signed into the app you will notice that the words My Barcode appear at the bottom of the screen. If you tap on this, your barcode will display. You can then scan the barcode at the library kiosks to borrow items and manage your account.
