“It came to November 5th 1918, we were doing the usual thing. There was still a lot of fighting going on. There were snipers and when we got to them, they were giving themselves up. That's when I got these bullets. I went down. I was shot with one bullet. I thought I'd lost my leg because it severed the nerve. I had to wait for some time and the Germans that they captured carried me down.”
