Join the Library Join the Library
Anyone who lives, works or studies in West Sussex can join any of our libraries for free. If you are under 14 you will need the permission and library card number of a parent or carer.

Join in person by visiting any West Sussex Library – bring personal identification and proof of address, such as a driving licence with you.

To join online complete the form below:

  • you will need to choose a library as your home branch so that your details can be registered
  • fields marked with an * must be filled in
  • to complete registration, you must tick the box at the end of the form, which means you agree to  our library byelaws and terms and conditions.

Once you have joined online you will be given a temporary library card number. You can reserve titles from our catalogue straight away, but you will not be able to borrow items or use online services, including the library app. To do this, you will need a library card,  this will be sent to you on the next working day.

If you need a library card more quickly, it is recommended that you join in person (see above).

Your library card will give you instant access to the eLibrary service, where you can browse and download from a wide range of books, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers and comics using your computer, tablet or smartphone.

You will also be able to reserve and borrow up to 4 items from a library.  To borrow up to 20 items, you will need to visit a library with personal identification and proof of address and your membership will be upgraded.

If you are already a member but have lost your library card, you need to complete a different form.
